Rory McIlroy misses cut at Irish Open

Rory McIlroy has missed the cut at this year’s Irish Open for the fourth time in his last five appearances.

The four-time major winner recorded a one-over-par 73 in the second round to finish one-over-par for the tournament--four shots adrift of the cut line.

The result continues a miserable run for McIlroy this year, who lost out in a play-off to Graeme Storm in the BMW SA Open in January, before spending six weeks on the side lines after suffering a stress fracture to his rib.

McIlroy returned at the WGC-Mexico Championship in early March and played the Arnold Palmer Invitational, WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play. He also played the Masters before aggravating the injury slightly at the Players Championship.

That kept him out until the US Open, where he also missed the cut, before a T17 finish at the Travelers Championship two weeks ago.

The 28-year-old now has a final chance to put in a strong performance before the Open at Royal Birkdale when he plays the Scottish Open next week.
