The golf world, and many out of it, have been left rocked by the news that Jarrod Lyle is going into palliative care after claiming he is “no longer able to fight.”
Ryder Cup 2014: 5&3 lead for Europe after day one
Europe made a great start against the USA team as they won 5-3 in the first day’s foursomes.
World No.1 Rory McIlroy and Sergio Garcia’s halved match – with two down and two to play – prevented Europe from a clean sweep in what turned into a commanding display from the hosts.
Jamie Donaldson and Lee Westwood put in a great shift too as they went two up on the final green, while Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson came through their game as 2&1 winners.
Victor Dubuisson, who was making his first appearance in a Ryder Cup and spoke of his nervousness about the contest beforehand, was teamed with the experienced Graeme McDowell, and the duo played some excellent golf to register a wonderful 3&2 victory.
It’s all eyes on day two, which we’ll update you on, so keep checking back here.
