Rose shows class to Garcia after Masters defeat

Justin Rose came agonisingly close to clinching a second major victory at the Masters this past weekend, but couldn’t add to his 2013 US Open triumph as Sergio Garcia romped to his first Green Jacket.

It would have been easy for Rose to simply walk away from this defeat, painful as it was for the Englishman to swallow, but as Garcia dropped to his knees in celebration of winning his maiden major trophy, Rose showed none of the green-eyed monster some had expected.

Instead, he tweeted a message to the new champion, congratulating him on the win, and praising him on such a sensational duel.

The 36-year-old took to social media, commending Garcia for his performance, and said: “Congrats @TheSergioGarcia Incredible battle out there. Sport in the moment can be tough. But it’s just sport. Hope you guys enjoyed it.”

In an interview afterwards, Rose said: “If there’s anyone to lose to, it’s Sergio. He’s had his share of heartbreak.”

Justin Rose is a class act.
