The golf world, and many out of it, have been left rocked by the news that Jarrod Lyle is going into palliative care after claiming he is “no longer able to fight.”
Justin Rose hits golf ball off a BA 747 aeroplane
After the celebrations had died down following Europe’s spectacular victory over the US, Ryder Cup hero Justin Rose flew from Scotland to British Airways’ engineering hangar in London to take on new, rather unique challenge to raise funds and awareness for his charity the Kate and Justin Rose Foundation.
Rose’s charity is designed to inspire children through nutrition, education and experiences, and Rose was all too happy to create a memorable moment that people would remember.
Standing on the wing of a British Airways 747, which has a wingspan of 64m and average height of 6.1m above the ground, Rose was joined by former England football captain and BBC Match of the Day commentator Gary Lineker, ex-Liverpool player Jamie Redknapp, former England and Arsenal striker Ian Wright and fashion icon Jodie Kidd. Their mission: successfully hit a series of golf balls at a target up to 180 yards away to secure flights for the charity.
The challenge proved even more difficult due to high winds whipping about during their shots, with Justin Rose skimming the target and Jamie Redknapp landing a shot only after his golf ball bounced and deflected off the green.
“That was a lot more challenging than I expected,” acknowledged Rose. “I don’t think I’ve been faced with a shot quite as unique as hitting one off a wing of a British Airways 747! Ian Wright had the best shot of the day, but you’ll have to watch the highlights to appreciate it!”
Frank van der Post, British Airways managing director of brands and customer experience said: “It was a fantastic day and thanks to Justin and his sporting friends’ efforts we have donated ten flights to the Justin and Kate Rose Foundation.”
Now Justin Rose will head off to Dubai to compete in the European Tour’s finale of the Race to Dubai, the DP World Tour Championship, held at the Jumeirah Golf Estates in the United Arab Emirates. And while in Dubai, Rose will also be hosting an exclusive golf clinic open to a limited number of competition winners who will be flown to Dubai by British Airways for a meet and greet with Justin and to receive personal coaching from the golfer himself.
