Furious Gary Evans tees off on Gary Player after being blocked on Twitter

Professional golfer Gary Evans let fly with an explosive tirade against Gary Player in a series of tweets after he was blocked by the nine-time major champion.

After being blocked on social media, Evans, who is best remembered for coming agonisingly close to winning the 2002 Open Championship at Muirfield before finishing tied for fifth, wrote a number of venomous tweets pertaining to how he lost all respect for the South African after he ruined one of the biggest moments of his career ahead of a practice round at the 1989 Open at Royal Troon.

Evans held nothing back in his remarks, explaining in candid fashion how he was scheduled to play alongside his childhood heroes Player and Seve Ballesteros, as well as Gordon J Brand on the Wednesday, only for Player to oust Evans in favour of Sandy Lyle on the first tee.

The Englishman, a 20-year-old amateur at the time of the incident, then revealed how Player “chose to take it out on me in the locker room in an extremely aggressive manner which left me in bits.”

He also went into detail about something similar which happened again during the 1991 Open.
