South Korea’s Park Wins Third Consecutive Major
South Korea’s Inbee Park is still on course for an unprecedented Grand Slam by winning the third women’s Major of the year, the US Women’s Open.
The 24-year-old, who tasted success at the event in 2008, already has the 2013 Kraft Nabisco and LPGA Championships under her belt. There are two Majors remaining this year, the British Open in August and the Evian Championship in September.
Inbee carded a 74 to finish on eight-under, four shots ahead and four clear of fellow countryperson Kim In-Kyung.
For the first year in history there will be five Majors on the schedule after Inbee’s previous win at the Evian Championship last year elevated the event’s status.
The only woman to have won the first three Majors of the year is Babe Zaharias, achieved in 1950 when no fourth Major existed. Mickey Wright and Par Bradley were the only other women to win three Majors in the same year.
