Romain Wattel completes switch to Nike Golf
He’s been a Titleist player since he was 14 years old, but talented French golfer Romain Wattel will begin the 2015 season a Nike player after penning a deal with the brand over the winter.
Wattel was one of the standout performers last year, so his switch to Nike is not all that surprising. The fact he has quit Titleist, however, will certainly raise some eyebrows as he had been looking sharp using the brand’s equipment and balls.
Wattel’s deal means he does not have any other sponsors outside of Nike, while he will also play exclusively with all 14 Nike clubs, golf balls, shoes, headwear and gloves. In other words, if it ain’t Nike branded, he ain’t got it in his bag.
But Wattel is unfazed by such a deal and has expressed his excitement at the prospect of playing under the Swoosh-branded umbrella, saying: “It is a big change for me and I am confident of playing well this week.
“Nike has some of the best players in the game playing with their clubs such as Rory (McIlroy) and Tiger (Woods) so I am really pleased to be a part of the team.”
