Rickie Fowler putts into sprinkler head

Five shots clear of the chasing field in the final round of the Honda Classic, standing on the par-4 green, what could possibly go wrong for Rickie Fowler?

The American looked set to hole in from his third shot off the green when something rather unexpected happened – he holed into a sprinkler head!

In fact, Fowlers’ shot never even reached the putting surface, dropping instead into a wide hole in the grass. Fowler was understandably surprised to see his golf ball suddenly vanish into the greens, before also being understandably disappointed when realising what had happened.

After taking the drop, Fowler two-putted from the fringe for bogey, giving his rivals an opportunity--albeit a small one--to claw back some points in the race for Honda Classic glory.

However, it wasn’t just Fowler who had a bad break involving a sprinkler head. On Saturday, Ryan Brehm’s tee shot on the 15th bounded off a sprinkler head before landing in the water.

Not a good week for golfers and sprinkler heads…

Check out the video below to see Rickie Fowlers' bemused reaction to his shot.
