Poulter seeking fitness ahead of Hong Kong return

Ian Poulter

Ian Poulter hopes to win his fitness battle this week ahead of playing the Hong Kong Open as he prepares to close out a disappointing year on the greens.

Poulter has spent five months out of action during 2016 due to a knee problem, and only made his competitive return at the Venetian Macao Open in October. The former World No.5 has played in six events since his return to action, and wants to assure his fans that he’s turning a corner and returning to his best form.

"I'm in good form. I'm rested. I feel my game now, kind of six events in, feels pretty good," said the 40-year-old.

He added: "So it's good to come to a golf course where I've had quite a bit of success. Quite a few rounds in the 60s on this course and obviously holding that trophy in 2010. So I'm looking forward to the challenge this week."

The 12-time European Tour winner hasn’t claimed a victory of any sorts since his triumph in the WGC-HSBC Champions four years ago. On top of that, his only top ten finish of 2016 came at the Puerto Rico Open at Coco Beach in March.
