Dufner’s putter drop at the RBC Heritage irks fans

Jason Dufner has been a peripheral figure in golf these past few years, so it was good to him make a somewhat triumphant return at the RBC Heritage. And, although he couldn’t quite turn a 54-hole lead into a return trip to the winner's circle, we got more Dufner exposure in the final round than we have recently--which is always great.

However, a rather acrimonious club drop seems to have plunged the fan-favourite in hot water with some fans, who did not see the funny side to Dufners’ antics towards his caddie, who was left to collect the golf putter after the he dropped it on the green and sauntered off in a huff following a costly bogey on a par-5 at Harbour Town.

We don't think that's a good look for the game, but could it be Dufner’s dry sense of humour at play here?

Kevin Baile has caddied for most of Dufner's career, though the two did break up in 2016--with Dufner hiring Josh Cassell before the 2016 Masters. It's unclear whether there was an argument between Baile and Dufner on Sunday, or if Dufner was just frustrated with himself for missing some short putts with a chance to win his fifth PGA Tour event.
