Hamilton Pulls Out Of Wentworth
Pádraig Harrington has withdrawn from this week’s BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth. After playing three tournaments without success in the last month, the multi-Major winner decided to take a break to recharge his batteries.
The Dubliner, 66th in the latest world rankings, has opted to take a week off after three tournaments this month, in which he missed one cut (Wells Fargo), finished in a tie for 75th (The Players Championship) and in a share of 48th place at the Byron Nelson Championship in Texas.
Since missing the cut at last month's US Masters, the 41-year-old has struggled to find top form and decided a week on the West Course at Wentworth, one of his least successful venues in the past, was unlikely to do him any favours.
"Padraig withdrew because, having played three weeks in a row, he felt a week off was better for his game then a fourth consecutive event," his agent Adrian Mitchell said.
Though he had a couple of top-10 finishes at the BMW PGA in 2009 and 2010, Harrington missed the cut last year after rounds of 76 and 79 left him with a share of 144th place on 11-over.
Despite the absence of Harrington the European Tour’s flagship event still boasts a strong field with 12 members of Europe’s Ryder Cup winning team in attendance.
