Garmin announces Approach G30 handheld device

Garmin has announced its newest GPS device, the Approach G30 handheld, adding a sleek and compact device to its already comprehensive line-up.

The G30 has a 2.3-inch colour touchscreen with full course mapping for more than 40,000 courses worldwide, plus free map updates. Features such as Green View and Touch Targeting has also been added, so users will have the most accurate yardage info, and are able track their stats and performance over each round and over time. The Approach G30 has a sleek and versatile design, which can be mounted nearly anywhere, including players’ belts, golf carts and golf bags.

Like other Garmin devices, the Approach G30 comes pre-loaded with more than 40,000 courses from round the world--with lifetime map updates!

Its sunlight-readable touchscreen, with Big Numbers Mode, means the Approach G30 displays yardages in a large font for at-a-glance viewing--making it super easy to see all the important information needed for each round.

“With the Approach G30, we were able to pack a ton of features into a streamlined device,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin vice president of global consumer sales. “The colour touchscreen combined with Touch Targeting, Green View and stat tracking, will give users a competitive advantage no matter what course they play.”

The Approach G30 allows users to get accurate distances to greens, hazards and doglegs, even if they’re under thick tree cover. The Approach G30 even has a dedicated Green View, which shows the shape of the green – allowing users to manually position the pin to get the most accurate distance information from almost anywhere.

G30 is compatible with the Garmin TruSwing™ analyser. When paired together, golfers will have access to data such as swing speed and club path angles, which can be used to improve swing consistency.

Players can get smart notifications for incoming calls and texts, plus automatic uploads to the Garmin Connect™ Mobile app to save all of their golf data like scorecards in one place.

The Approach G30 keeps track of scores for up to four players, and can track more in-depth stats like fairways hit, greens in regulation and putts per round. Plus, with the Garmin Connect Mobile app, users can track their overall scores, and see how they play on each course and even each hole. It will also be possible to go back and see average and best scores for every course played with the device.

With up to 15 hours of battery life between charges, the Approach G30 will last a good few rounds in a single sitting. It is designed to withstand the elements, and has a water rating of IPX7.
