Faldo slams Day over quadruple bogey at US PGA Championship

Jason Day was on a quest to claim his second major honour at the US PGA Championship this past weekend, but saw his chances derail after a calamitous decision on the par-four final hole.

Days decision-making was so poor, in fact, it even drew the ire of Nick Faldo, who berated the Australian for not using common sense ahead of taking a second shot when another option was obviously wiser.

After hitting a wild drive to the right that ended up stymied behind a tree, Day decided to attempt the unthinkable by trying to reach the green in two instead of chipping out and taking his medicine.

Faldo wasn’t in the mood for mincing words, being quoted as saying the shot was “One of the worst decisions I’ve seen a professional golfer make.”

Unsurprisingly, Day was only able to advance the golf ball a few yards into a collection of bushes – even further right than where he was originally. He then was forced to take a drop next to the grandstand and subsequently incurred a one-stroke penalty. Still unable to reach the green, Day laid up into the thick right hand side rough for his fourth shot. He then came up well short of the green on his fifth and finally reached his destination on the sixth shot.

If that wasn’t bad enough, Day’s triple-bogey putt lipped out; eventually tapping in for a shocking quadruple bogey.
