Charley Hull wins maiden LPGA Tour title

Charley Hull captured her first LPGA Tour title in the season-ending CME Group Tour Championship, making it an historical day for English golf.

Only hours after Matt Fitzpatrick eclipsed a record set by Sir Nick Faldo of the youngest Englishman to earn three European Tour wins, Hull became the first ever player from England to win the LPGA Tour Karen Stupples at the 2004 Women’s British Open.

Hull was in fine form, and held a narrow 54-hole lead--one stroke ahead of playing partners Brittany Lincicome and So Yeon Ryu--after a nervous start, and steadied herself by pulling ahead by two shots. From there she carded a flawless six-under-par 66 to earn a two-shot victory from Ryu.

“Yeah, it’s pretty cool feeling,” Charley Hull said. “Hasn’t quite sunk in yet, but I last won on the LET, the European Tour, like two years ago. Had that dry like patch for a few years. Feels good now to get a win.

“To prepare, I just went back to my room and didn’t even really think I was leading. I just spoke to my friends, watched some Snapchat videos with it being Saturday night, went to the gym and watched Netflix.”

With her first LPGA Tour title, Hull has moved up to a career-high No.18 in the Rolex Rankings. Her 19-under-par total was also a tournament record score.

“I’m feeling pretty good where I am at the moment – mentally very good,” she added. “I didn’t swing it amazingly on the front nine but as we got to the back nine, I really got into it.”
