Adam Scott considering keeping his long putter despite impending ban

Adam Scott has admitted that he’s leaning towards keeping his long broomstick putter in play for the 2016 season despite the imminent ban on anchoring.

Scott has been a long-time admirer of anchored putting and was staunchly against any ban being imposed upon the clubs he regularly uses in big tournaments.

Speaking to, Scott said: “I’ve got as far as I see it two good options; I can un-anchor the long putter, I do that well, or putt with a short one, and I know what I’m up for there because I used it a few rounds this year.”

It might be possible for Scott to keep his long putter by using the club away from his chest, while also utilising a traditional putter for other crucial shots.

“I like the long one with the same action I’ve been using. I just have to shorten the putter a few inches and everything else stays the same,” Scott added.

“The putter is so good, if there was any concern of it not being stable when it’s unanchored it’s gone.”

So far this season Scott has pulled out a short putter for his game, finishing fourth at Doral before a missed cut in Tampa and a T35 at Bay Hill; he’s since reverted back to the broomstick.

The Australian now wallows in a lowly 94th on the FedEx Cup list this week and the 2013 Masters champion needs a stellar result at the Barclays tournament to stay alive.

After using his brother-in-law and coach Brad Malone as his caddie last week, Scott has now enlisted the services of veteran Ricci Roberts for the play-offs but remains hopeful he can create a workable schedule for Kiwi Steve Williams again next year, even if the deal is on a part-time basis.
