Americans Win Away At President's Cup
After a poor run in the Ryder Cup contests against Europe, the U.S. team captained by Jack Nicklaus rejoiced in their first President's Cup victory away from home at the Royal Montreal golf club where they beat the Internationals by 19½ to 14½
However, the Internationals had the satisfaction of outscoring the Americans for the first time in the singles, by 7-5.
Canadian fans were also overjoyed at Mike Weir's one-up triumph over Tiger Woods.
Winning the 2003 US Masters was such a thrill but this is right there with it. I had to play my absolute best to beat him, Weir said.
Woods won four out of five holes to go one up at the 15th, but Weir clawed his way back with a birdie at 17 that secured his victory when Woods drove into water at the last.
Weir, a member of the TaylorMade Tour Staff since 2001, has extended his partnership with TaylorMade through 2008 and made the switch to adidas golf footwear.
