Monty Wins At Stormy K Club
Colin Montgomerie won the Smurfit Kappa European Open this afternoon in a strange finish at the K Club in County Kildare, Ireland. He managed to beat the lightning to score 11 under par and hold off the challenge of the in form Niclas Fasth.
He had Yonex's Nanospeed Technology to thank for his first win in 2 years: in his bag were the Yonex Nanospeed Driver and Fairway Wood. He also played the Cyberstar XC Hybrid Wood and Cyberstar VX Irons to help him along the way, as well as a new 64 degree lob wedge.
Monty said afterwards to Sky Sports: "Any champion sounds good to me. After nearly two years of a dry spell it's fantastic for me. This was a very, very important win. You wonder if it is ever going to happen again and I am so glad it has. That is 31 wins now, one above Nick Faldo and that means a lot to me - someone I have respected for so many years."
With Carnoustie just around the corner, maybe Monty isn't too old to break his duck...
