Glover Wins US Open
American golfer Lucas Glover won the rain-soaked US Open, which overran by a day for the first time in regulation golf since Larry Nelson won at Oakmont golf course in 1983.
Glover finished on 4-under-par, and 2 shots clear of fellow American golfers Phil Mickelson, David Duval, and Ricky Barnes, who led the leaderboard at the start of the final day. The golf tournament could have been won by a number of golfers, with Tiger Woods applying pressure as the leaders faltered, but it was Glover who carefully putted for pars to secure the victory.
Using his Tour version of the Nike SQ Sumo2 Driver, Glover drove an average of 291.12 yards, and hit 71.43% of fairways on the Bethpage Black golf course, and in the process, became the 1st golfer to win a PGA Tour major championship with a square-shaped driver. With great length from the tee, Glover was in a great position to use his Nike CCi Irons, and Nike SV Tour Wedges, and hit 72.2% of greens in regulation, the 4th highest.
For great success on the greens, Glover used a prototype Nike putter, which he started using at the Bob Hope Classic golf tournament. Since starting to use a Nike prototype putter, Glover has soared from 116th in putts per round in 2008 to tied for 23rd in 2009, and from 107th last year to tied for 28th in 2009 in putts per greens in regulation.
Also in his Nike golf bag, were Nike One Tour D golf balls, and Nike fairway woods. Glover also looked the part on the golf course, wearing Nike Air Zoom Elite II golf shoes, and a rage of Nike polo shirts, Nike golf trousers, and Nike caps.
