Custom Fitting
At no extra cost, we recommend all ladies take advantage of our highly popular custom-fitting service which is available both online and in-store. Our advantageous service provides female golfers with the option of getting their new clubs exactly made to measure to ensure they receive the maximum possible benefits from them. Although there are slightly fewer fitting options available during the female fitting process in comparison to the men’s, this service is still incredibly worthwhile to provide a female with a fine-tuned piece or pieces of equipment.
Flex
Unlike in the men’s section, most female golfers use the same flex golf club. This is because most of the ladies golf clubs come in only one flex option which depending on the shaft make and model is either labelled as ‘F’ or ‘4.0’. Ping have now opted to provide an alternative shaft collection for their latest range of female clubs. These come in the form of either a ‘lite’ or ‘ultralite’ flex option. The ‘lite’ option is the standard ladies shaft provided while the ‘ultralite’ choice gives the added benefit to either the female beginners or those with a reduced swing speed. We will test a female golfer to see which female flex best suits them. The most suitable flex option is dependent on the ladies’ clubhead speed, the two should correspond with each other in order to match the club’s ability to bend parallel to the speed of the ladies’ swing. Sometimes if a female golfer’s swing speed is a lot quicker, they can move up into a men’s senior shaft to provide them with a shaft which is more suited to match with their swing speed.
Shaft Length
Once the correct shaft has been found, we will then move onto deciding the best possible shaft for the lady golfer. Depending on the make and model, the standard ladies club can be between 1 to 2 inches shorter than the equivalent male club, while the ladies driver is sometimes up to 3 inches shorter. Although female golfers have a reduced swing speed compared to the average male, a lady golfer relies more on the rhythm and tempo of their swing. By therefore having a club that is reduced in length, this then helps provide them with added control during their back and fore swing which is essential when seeking the fairway or pursuing the pin. Our custom-fitting service will soon establish which preferred club length best suits the lady to provide the best possible results.
Shaft Component
Apart from ladies’ putters featuring a lightweight steel shaft, the rest of the female club’s family all feature a graphite shaft. The natural lightweight genetics that a graphite shaft possesses allows female golfers to increase their swing speed, and at the same time provide more forgiveness while also being less strenuous to use.
Loft
Ladies golf clubs have increased lofts compared to male golf clubs in order to allow the ball to become more airborne once connection has been made. Lady golfers tend to opt for having more fairway woods and hybrids included in their bag rather than the lower irons in order for them to maximise distance and help them map their way to the green in the least number of shots possible. The driver and also fairway woods therefore become commonly used for the majority of shots in a lady golfer's round and so the increased lofts provide more forgiveness and confidence for lifting the ball off the fine cut turf. Depending on the club’s make and model, the increased loft can range from between 1 and 3 degrees for each equivalent club type. Depending on which club a lady golfer is shopping for, we aim to identify the exact loft that will provide the most benefit to improving a lady’s game within the chosen club area.
Overall, our extensive custom-fitting process ensures that females purchase clubs that are exactly fitted to their style of play in order to help in providing the most assistance when attempting to improve their game.
Women’s Golf Clubs Frequently Asked Questions
Are women’s golf clubs different from men's?
Men’s and women’s golf clubs are different, yes. Women’s golf clubs have shorter shafts and are lighter in weight than men’s golf clubs. However, if you’re taller than 5 foot 9, you may need a lighter men’s club to compensate for your height as you will benefit from the longer shaft during the swing. Ladies’ golf clubs tend to be lighter because of their graphite shafts, so you can still achieve a competitive swing speed. They are identifiably labelled as ‘L’ and the shaft also tends to be more flexible, so you can still wrap a shot around your golf ball without compromising on your shot.
How long should women’s golf clubs be?
Ladies’ golf clubs are around 43 inches in length, which is just over 1 metre. They are shorter in the shaft than men’s, because women are typically shorter than male players. However, as we mentioned earlier, women over 5 foot 9 in height might need to opt for a custom ladies’ golf club set or even a men’s set.
