Dustin Johnson comes from a sporting background, with his grandfather Art Whisnant who played basketball at South Carolina and his youngest brother Austin being a guard on the Charleston Southern University basketball team.

Johnson himself studied at the Coastal Carolina University, where he was all-time scoring leader with a score of 72.26. He also finished in the top ten of thirty one collegiate events he entered into whilst at the university.

Since leaving college Johnson has become the first golfer since Tiger Woods to go straight from college to win in each of his first three years on the PGA Tour.
