Before turning professional, Lucas was a three-time High School All American (an honorary sports team made up of amateur players) at Wade Hampton High School. Here he won his home state’s South Carolina State High School Championship in both his freshman and sophomore years.
After finishing high school, Lucas went on to attend Clemson University. Whilst here he was a member of the 1999 USA v Japan Cup Team, the 2001 US Walker Cup Team and won three consecutive college tournaments from 1998 to 2000. He also competed in and won the Sunnehanna Amateur tournament a year later, bring to a close his list of amateur achievements before graduating and turning professional in 2001.
Since turning pro Lucas’s career highlights include being chosen to play for the US Team in the Presidents Cup in 2007 and at the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic, where he shared the lead with Justin Rose heading into the final round. He also achieved two top ten finishes in 2008 and this year won the US Open Championship.
