Chris Wood hit the golfing scene after winning the Amateur Silver Medal and coming in at joint fifth at the 2008 Open Championship, before turning Pro in 2009.
As an Amateur golfer Wood was successful in winning the 2007 Ping/English Golf Union Order of Merit, along with claiming Welsh and Russian Amateur titles.
It was Darren Clarke who played a part in helping Wood make the decision to go professional. Who advised him he would play better in the next year than if he was to stay at amateur level.
